Baku to honor the memory of Muslim Magomayev

Ten years will pass since the death of the legendary performer and composer, People’s Artist of the USSR Muslim Magomayev on October 25, Trend Life reported.

In this regard, representatives, famous cultural and art figures will honor the memory of Muslim Magomayev in the Alley of Honor in Baku.

Muslim Magomayev was born on August 17, 1942 in Baku. He graduated from music school in piano, then music college, and finally Baku Conservatory in vocal class. For the first time, Magomayev was noticed at the youth festival in Helsinki in 1962, where he became a laureate for performing the songs "Buchenwald Nabat" and "Do Russians Want War?". In 1963, Magomayev conquered Moscow with his concerts. The success was deafening. He freely performed not only pop, but also opera material. In 1964, Magomayev left for a one-year internship at the Milan Opera Theater "La Scala".

After Milan, Magomayev performed in the largest cities of the Soviet Union in the performances of Tosca and The Barber of Seville. In 1966 and 1969 Magomayev went on tour with great success at the famous Olympia Theater in Paris. In 1969, at the festival in Sopot, Magomayev received the first prize, and in Cannes - the “Golden Record”.

In 1973, he was awarded the title of People's Artist of the USSR. From 1975 to 1989, Magomayev was the artistic director of the Azerbaijan State Pop Symphony Orchestra. He created this orchestra and toured with it extensively in the USSR.

The singer participated in all major government concerts and festive programs on Soviet television. The voice of Magomayev sings the love serenade of Troubadour in the popular cartoon "In the Footsteps of the Bremen Town Musicians" (1973).

Muslim Magomayev’s discography includes more than 45 records, as well as 15 compact discs, including “Thank you” (1995), “Arias from operas and musicals. Neapolitan songs” (1996), “Soviet pop stars. Muslim Magomayev. Best” (2001), "Love is my song. Country of dreams" (2001).

There are more than 600 works (Russian romances, classical, pop and Neapolitan songs) in the concert repertoire of Magomayev. He starred in the films "Nizami", "Sings Muslim Magomayev" and "Moscow in the notes." Magomaev is the author of more than 20 songs and music for films. He is also the author and host of a television series about the life and work of the American singer Mario Lanza, he wrote a book about this artist.

Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev listened with pleasure to his song “Bella, Chao”, and after the official visit to Baku, Shahin Farah invited the singer to participate in the celebration of the anniversary of singer Muslim Magomayev of the coronation of the Shah of Iran.

In 1997, one of the minor planets of the Solar System, known to astronomers under the number 1974 SP1, was named after Magomayev.

In October 2010, the first Muslim Magomayev International Vocal Competition was held in Moscow. In the same year the Muslim Magomayev Concert Hall was opened in the Crocus City Hall.

At the age of 60, Magomayev firmly decided to leave the stage and retire. The voice was still strong, but the heart could not withstand heavy loads. On October 25, 2008, at the age of 67, the singer died at the hands of Tamara Ilinichna ...

The cause of his untimely death was vascular atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease. After the farewell ceremony with the great artist in the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow, the ashes of the deceased were taken to his native Baku, where Magomayev found his last refuge near the famous grandfather. He was buried in the Alley of Honor in Baku. Thousands of people came to say goodbye to Magomayev. President Ilham Aliyev, the singer’s widow Tamara Sinyavskaya, and his daughter Marina took part in the funeral procession.
