Today we are opening the creative heritage of Farhad Gamzaliyev (1953-2008) - another page in the history of modern Azerbaijani art.
Not everyone knows the name of Farhad Gamzaliyev. His name means a lot for nowadays young people working in the field of painting and various types of decorative and applied art and whom Farhad Gamzaliyev provided comprehensive, deeply professional support, helping to stand up and master the basics of craftsmanship.
He is well known both by young architects and designers who mastered the art of drawing and painting at the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction under his leadership. Here, at the Department of Fine Arts, Farhad worked for a short time - about three years.
Farhad Gamzaliyev is a native Absheronese. The artist’s life was associated with oil since childhood. Grandfather - Gurban Guliyev - owned the oil field in Surakhani. Father - Islam Gamzaliyev - worked in the fields. Uncle - Musa Guliyev - for many years headed the OGPM "Garadagneft". Growing up first in Surakhani, then in Mardakan, he is imbued with the subtle, but infinitely attractive beauty of the Absheron nature.
Farhad Gamzaliyev graduated from the Leningrad Higher Industrial Art School named after V.I. Mukhina (at present, Stieglitz St. Petersburg State Academy of Art and Industry).
The artist started drawing a lot in the late 1990s: technical difficulties with the production of ceramics affected. Close contact with such brilliant painters as Ismail Mamedov and Darwin Velibekov came in handy in these times. They saw the main advantage of art in the independent life of the means of artistic expression. These were artists who saw in the form the main factor influencing the work of art on our senses, giving it a leading role in the awakening of any emotions in the viewer.
He is a master of three-dimensional forms. His paintings are many-sided. They belong not only to different genres, but are executed in different manners of the letter and represent, at times, polar artistic trends, such as objective realism and geometric abstractionism, dramatic expressionism and sentimental romanticism.
The late 1990s - 2000s was a period of high creative activity of the artist. He is engaged in painting a lot and enthusiastically, experiments with glass and mirrors, with wood, metal, his favorite ceramics, and all this found its way into creating some “objects” that attracted both novelty technology and new interpretation of old themes. A bit later Farhad discovers a completely new technology for those years - computer graphics, the Pandora’s Box, which opened up unlimited possibilities for experimentation to artists - with color, composition, and form. The system itself here sometimes suggests unexpected configurations, geometric and organic shapes, shades and color gradations.
He was only 55 - healthy, beautiful, optimistic, full of creative plans ... He passed away, sitting at the easel, holding a brush in his hands ...
