Azeri tycoon returns to invest in Chechnya: report

Azerbaijani tycoon Telman Ismailov has returned to
Russia after a withdrawal that followed the shutdown of a major
market he owns by the Russian government, and now plans to invest
in Chechnya, local media reported.
The announcement came after Ismailov, the president of the Russian group of companies, AST, and his son, Sarkhan, met with Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov on Monday evening, The Moscow Times newspaper said.
Ismailov was briefed on a series of investment projects and expressed interest in studying them with his specialists so he could decide which to invest in, the Chechnya republic's press-service said in a statement.
Senator Ziyad Sabsabi, who represents Chechnya in the Russian Federation Council, the upper house of parliament, said they were discussing a hotel complex in Grozny and a canning factory that would be built in either Argun or Gudermes.
Ismailov would most likely be interested in the hotel complex, Sabsabi said, adding that no sums were discussed during the meeting but that the projects would require several tens of millions of dollars.
Also, Sarkhan Ismailov was named a vice president of the Grozny football club Terek, the statement said.
A source in the prosecutor's office said neither of the Ismailovs or their partners were accused or suspected of involvement in smuggling dangerous goods found at Cherkizovsky Market, according to The Moscow Times.*
