New airport to be constructed in Azerbaijan

Availability of airports in various parts of the country demonstrates the development of Azerbaijani regions and their popularity for tourism and business trips.

Airports of Azerbaijan make an unforgettable impression on all tourists arriving to the Land of Fire, and smoothly serve millions of passengers, every day taking dozens of flights from many countries of the world.

A new airport is planned to be built in Azerbaijan's Shaki district in 2022-2023, Trend reports referring to the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan.

The construction is mentioned in the strategic plan of Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC for 2018-2025.

Recently, a new airport was built in the Gabala district and the airport in the Zagatala district was reconstructed.

The largest airport in Azerbaijan is the Heydar Aliyev International Airport. In total, there are six passenger airports in the country - in Baku, Nakhchivan, Ganja, Lankaran, Gabala, Zagatala. All of them have the status of international airports.

Baku

Located in the capital of Azerbaijan, the Heydar Aliyev International Airport terminal features giant wooden cocoons designed by Turkish architecture studio Autoban.

The Heydar Aliyev International Airport of the Azerbaijani capital has been listed among the top three unusual airports in the world, according to a Hi-Tech.

In 2017 and 2018, the Heydar Aliyev International Airport was named the best airport among those of Russia and CIS countries for the level of the provided services for the second year in a row and awarded the maximum rating of "5 Stars" according to Skytrax World Airport Awards.

The Heydar Aliyev International Airport set a new record for passenger traffic volume - last year it served a total of 4.43 million passengers. This is 9 percent higher than in 2017.

Nakhchivan

The Nakhchivan airport is an airport in the Nakhchivan city of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan. Located 4 km from the city center, it is the only air gate of this region of the country.

In 2002-2004, a new terminal was built, while in April 2004 the Nakhchivan airport received the status of an international airport.

Ganja

The Ganja international airport in Ganja city of Azerbaijan was built in 2006. The same year, it received the status of an international airport.

Lankaran

The Lankaran airport is an international airport in the town of Lankaran in the south-east of Azerbaijan. Reconstruction of the Lankaran airport started in 2005 and was completed in 2008 when the Lankaran airport received the status of an international airport.

Zaqatala

The Zaqatala airport is located at the southern foot of the Main Caucasus range. The latest reconstruction of the airport terminal and the runway was completed in 2008, after which the airport received international status.

Gabala

The Gabala airport is an international airport in the town of Gabala in the north-west of Azerbaijan. Construction of the Gabala airport started in January 2011 and on November 17, 2011, President Ilham Aliyev took part in the inauguration of the airport. In the same year the Gabala airport received the status of an international airport.
