Azerbaijan is carrying out reforms in intellectual property protection and improvement of regulatory processes in the electronic environment, the First Deputy Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan Ali Abdullayev said at a conference on Intellectual Property Protection Issues in the Development of Innovations organized during the Innovation Week on Oct. 30.

Modern development processes are closely related to the use of high technologies and all goals in this direction are outlined in the Azerbaijan-2020: A look into the future development concept adopted in the country, Abdullayev said.

"Innovative development in Azerbaijan is in the center of attention of the country's leadership. ICT, being the main component, along with the national innovation system, creates the possibility of applying innovations in education, medicine, agriculture and other industries. Azerbaijan, in 2018, according to the World Competitiveness Rating of the World Economic Forum, ranks 31st among 140 countries for the development of the innovation ecosystem and dynamic business," he said.

An important role in this matter is played by the ongoing reforms in the country in the field of intellectual property protection and improvement of regulatory processes in the electronic environment, the deputy minister added.

"Azerbaijan has seen an increase in the protection level of intellectual property rights. The issues of protection of copyright in the digital environment are specified in the state program of development of the information society of Azerbaijan for 2016-2020. Last year, the Law On Information, Informatization and Protection of Information was amended, according to which information that violates intellectual property rights is entered in the register of information, the dissemination of which is prohibited. We believe that this will contribute to the protection of intellectual property in the digital environment," Abdullayev said.
