USAID: Provision of women with equal rights - key to Azerbaijani economy diversification

The provision of women with equal rights in the labor market is the key to the efforts of the Azerbaijani government to diversify the economy, Mikaela Meredith, head of USAID mission in Azerbaijan, said.
Meredith made the remarks during the conference entitled "Development of Entrepreneurship among Women in Azerbaijan", held within the Global Entrepreneurship Week in Baku on November 17.
The Global Entrepreneurship Week is held worldwide on November 13-19. The Global Entrepreneurship Week has been held since 2008.
Meredith said that USAID has supported the development of entrepreneurship in Azerbaijan for years.
"The Azerbaijani government is working to diversify the economy and improve the living conditions of citizens,” she said.
Meredith also stressed that numerous studies show that when women are involved in the economy, their families are more educated and happy.
"Women play big role in the economy, when they can launch their own business, develop and manage it,” she said. “The economy is thriving in those countries where women can realize their economic goals."
