The Heydar Aliyev International Airport, a holder of the prestigious Skytrax World Airport Awards, serviced 1.62 million passengers in January-April 2017.

The figure is more by 36 percent compared to the same period of 2016.

AZAL carried 594,000 passengers, 158,000 of which were carried on domestic flights to Nakhchivan, Ganja and Gabala.

Some 904,000 passengers (85%) of the Baku airport were carried by international flights.

Roughly 48.2% of the total international traffic of the airport accounted for Azerbaijan Airlines, 51.8% - foreign air carriers.

Istanbul, Moscow, Dubai and Kiev remained the most popular international destinations - the passenger flow to these cities was 62% of the total number. Tehran, Tbilisi, Doha and St. Petersburg (12% of passenger traffic) are also among the popular destinations.

The Heydar Aliyev International Airport serves 28 airlines; five of them are low-cost carriers.

The Airport was awarded the category of "4 stars" by the Skytrax, which is influential British consulting company specializing in the study of the quality of services provided by various airlines and airports worldwide.

In March this year, the Baku Heydar Aliyev Airport was named the best airport among airports of Russia and CIS countries for the level of the provided services, being awarded the prestigious Skytrax World Airport Awards.

The Heydar Aliyev International Airport, a modern airport only 20-minute drive from the center of Azerbaijan’s capital Baku, offers full comfort for arriving and departing passengers.

In 2016, the Airport, which provides many flights take-off and land every day, served a record number of passengers in Azerbaijan's civil aviation history. Some 3.26 million passengers used services of the national airport, where 83.5 percent of passenger traffic accounted for international transportation.
