Gymnasts impressed with preparation for FIG World Cup in Baku

German gymnasts are very pleased with the conditions created for them in Baku, the coach of German women's team in artistic gymnastics Claudia Schunk told Trend on February 18.

She said that the German delegation was impressed with the level of organization of competitions in Azerbaijan at the First European Games.

“We are satisfied with all conditions created, there is a great arena, a great hall here,” Schunk said. “We hope that there will be a lot of spectators, fans of gymnastics, which will create a great atmosphere.”

The First European Games kicked off in Baku June 12, 2015 and wrapped up June 28. The Games hosted 20 sports – 16 Olympic and four non-Olympic sports. Over 6,000 athletes represented the European countries at Baku 2015.

She went on to add that the World Cup in artistic gymnastics will become a good experience for both the athletes and the host country.

The FIG World Challenge Cup in Artistic Gymnastics will be held from Feb. 19 to Feb. 21 in Baku.

National Gymnastics Arena and the appropriate services of Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation (AGF) are preparing to receive guests from 19 countries.

World cup is an important event in the world gymnastics, thus the International Federation of Gymnastics (FIG) will send to Baku its representative – member of the Technical Committee in Men’s Artistic Gymnastics from Germany, Holger Albrecht, who follows the course of the events with German precision and controls the objectivity of judges in this subjective sports discipline.

President of the FIG Technical Committee in Women’s Artistic Gymnastics, Olympic Champion Nellie Kim will also visit Baku.

Baku tournament will be in the limelight of local and foreign mass media. It is expected that the championship will widely be covered in Japan, which delegates a team of reporters and television journalists.
