By Laman Sadigova

Azerbaijan has nominated its candidacy to host the World Judo Championships.

President of the International Judo Federation, Marius Vizer informed about this in his blog on Twitter.

Asked about the cities bidding to host the world Cup in 2018 and 2019, Vizer wrote: "Paris, Tokyo, Kazan, Baku and Kiev and probably Houston are bidding for these World Championships.”

Vizer is expected to pay an official visit to Baku in the nearest future to discuss the issue. If Baku’s application approved, then it will be the first such event in Azerbaijan’s history.

The World Judo Championships are the highest level of international judo competition, along with the Olympic judo competition. This event is held once every year by the International Judo Federation.

The last edition of the championships took place in Astana, Kazakhstan in 2015.
