Azerbaijan’s rower second at Youth Olympic Games

A leading event has already taken place in the history of Azerbaijan's sport: the country has taken its first medal on rower.

Azerbaijani rower Boris Yotov took the silver medal at the second Summer Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China.

The eighteen year old Yotov secured the silver medal after timing 3:21.82 seconds in the 1000m race in the men`s single sculls.

Only 0.6 seconds separated him from the victory. German two-time world champion Tim Ole Naske occupied the first place after timing 3:21.23 seconds and the third place went to Dan de Grut from Canada (3:22.21 seconds).

The number of the medals of Azerbaijan's team reached 4 in the Olympiad.

Earlier, Azerbaijan participated in the rowing event for two times. National canoeist Radoslav Kutsev took the fifth place in the First Summer Youth Olympic Games, held in Singapore in 2010. In 2012 a canoeist couple of Sergey Bezugliy and Maxim Prokopenko became the fourth and academic rower Alexander Alexandrov took the fifth place in London Summer Olympic Games.

Boris also participated in competitions held among the seniors.

At the European Championship held in Belgrade, Boris Yotov and Alexandr Alexandrov in the men`s double sculls event gained the silver medal.

Boris is now going to take part in the World Championship, which will start in Holland on August 24 event, Azerbaijan's Rowing Federation reports.
