World's largest charity car rally will run through Baku for the
first time. The Mongol Rally started in London, on July 20. It will
run through Prague on July 22.
The other mandatory checkpoints for the car race are namely Sibiu, Romania on July 24, Vama Veche, Romania on July 25 and Baku, Azerbaijan on July 29.
The rally will go through Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Greece, Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and the immense Siberia.
Ulan Bator is the final destination of the rally.
The Mongol Rally mixes the love for adventure with the willingness
to support social causes. According to the rules of the
competition, for adventure to be at its peak, cars should be small.
Meanwhile, 4x4 vehicles are "banned". The participants promote the
idea of saving rainforests. They are also free to choose local
charities.
Numbers are, roughly: 16,000 kilometers, 22 countries, 3 mountains, 2 continents, 1 huge desert, 6 weeks, and 20 songs dedicated to the charity donors who bought them on the team's website.
Each team needs to donate 1,000 euro and drive on the route on simple urban cars.
This rally is not the first such event for Baku, as the City of Winds hosted its first racing Baku City Challenge in October 2012, presenting a spectacular urban motorsport experience, and attracted the attention of city residents. Approximately 120 countries broadcast the show for 300 million people.
Also, one of the stages of Grand Prix of Formula One race will be held in Azerbaijan in autumn 2015. Azerbaijan will become the second country in the former Soviet Union after Russia that will host the Formula One Grand Prix.
