Azerbaijan defeat Turkey 1-0
BAKU – Azerbaijan`s national football team beat Turkey 1-0 in the qualifying round of the European championship in Baku on Tuesday.
Azerbaijan secured the win thanks to Rashad Sadikhov’s goal in the 38th minute.
Despite the defeat by Austria, the Azerbaijani team well prepared for the match with Turkey and gained victory, the coach of Azerbaijani team Berti Vogts said at a press conference.
"I know at what level the Turkish football is, and let them also know at what level the Azerbaijani football is," Vogts said.
The coach named captain of Azerbaijani team Rashad Sadikhov the best player of the match.
Vogts also commented on opportunities missed during the match. "The Azerbaijani team is young, and I immediately told the players after the match that they should work to avail of these opportunities," he said.
Vogts believes that the Turkish team will still show its best play and gain the second place in the group.
