Uzbek banks see rise in volume of total assets

Total assets of Uzbekistan's commercial banks stood at 73.4 trillion soums as of January-June 2016, the country's Central Bank reported on July 20.
The total assets of Uzbekistan's commercial banks reached 65.2 trillion soums as of 2015. Thus, these figures increased by 12.6 percent compared to 2015.
The total loan portfolio of the country's banks increased by 12.4 percent and reached up to 48 trillion soums compared to 42.7 trillion soums, the message said.
The total volume of deposits attracted by Uzbek banks reached 40.1 trillion soums as of early July compared to 35.6 trillion soums as of early 2016 (an increase by 12.6 percent), the message said.
According to the message, the total capital of banks increased by almost 9 percent up to 8 trillion soums in Jan.-June 2016 (an increase by 8.97 percent).
Currently, 26 commercial banks operate in Uzbekistan's banking system.
