Gazprom has no intention to resume gas purchase from Turkmenistan
Currently, Gazprom does not intend to resume buying gas from
Turkmenistan, Viktor Zubkov, chairman of Gazprom’s board of
directors, said, RIA Novosti reported.
Turkmengas State Concern reported in mid-January that Gazprom has
terminated the contract ahead of schedule since January 1.
Russia was the main buyer of Turkmen gas before the global economic
crisis of 2008. Then Turkmenistan supplied about 50 bcm of gas per
year to Russia. The crisis reduced these volumes up to 10 bcm and
up to four bcm in 2015.
