NATO chooses site for building training center in Georgia
By Mushvig Mehdiyev
NATO has positively assessed a Georgian military base as a "perfect location" for the construction of its Georgia-NATO joint military training center.
Georgia's Defense Ministry received a glowing letter from NATO which enounced the Vaziani military base as the best site for the construction of the training center.
NATO Deputy Secretary General Ambassador, Alexander Vershbow's letter focused mainly on his recent visit to Georgia.
"The implementation of the NATO-Georgia Substantial Package is underway in accordance with the plan,” Vershbow wrote in his letter.
The top NATO official said Vaziani base would perfectly fit to establish the joined training and assessment center.
"I believe we will manage to reach the goals we set for 2015. I would like to put a special stress to the Georgian military servicemen’s professionalism. As to me, Vaziani military base is a strong candidate to host the joint training and assessment center,” he said.
He expressed his hope that the Georgian side will make its decision about the training center's location together with NATO experts in the near future.
At the end of the letter, Vershbow wished success to Georgia and expressed his willingness to continue close cooperation with Georgia.
The NATO Deputy Secretary General paid an official visit to Georgia on January 28-31 this year.
During the visit, he also visited the Vaziani military base and familiarized himself with its potential.
