Four religious confessions, other than Orthodoxy, will receive financial aid by the Georgian government as a compensation for damages of the Soviet regime.

Financial compensations have been allocated to the Jewish and Muslim communities, as well as Armenian Apostolic Church and Catholic Church existing in Georgia.

"The government decree on granting partial compensations for damages suffered by four religious confessions during the Soviet Union's reign has been fulfilled," said Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister, at the meeting with the representatives of groups on December 24.

Vashakmadze noted that the government showed its goodwill by allocating these funds.

Zaza Vashakmadze, Head of State Agency for Religious Issues, said the confessions financed by the state budget will receive double funding in 2015.

Earlier Paata Zakareishvili, Georgia’s State Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality said the state would allocate a total of $574,000 to the mentioned religious groups.
