Georgia says decision on visa-free travels to EU expected to come in spring

Georgia expects that the decision on visa-free travels to the EU will be made in spring, Georgia's State Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Alexi Petriashvili told reporters Oct. 30.

He said the country is ready to move on to a new phase of action plan for visa liberalization.

"The European Commission's assessment is also of great importance. This is a big step forward; it will bring Georgia to a visa-free regime with the EU," Petriashvili said.

"We have to manage to make a positive decision on the visa-free regime at the Riga summit within the remaining period of time before spring," the state minister said.

Earlier, the European Commission adopted the second report on the implementation of the visa liberalization action plan by Georgia.

The European Commission said Georgia satisfies the requirements for the first phase of the visa dialogue, and it is possible to start working on the second phase.
