Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran and Oman have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the entry into force of the agreement on the construction of a new international transport corridor to link the Central Asian countries to the Persian Gulf ports.

The document was signed by the foreign ministers of the four countries on August 6, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.

The agreement envisaging the creation of the transport corridor was signed in April 2011.

The transport corridor will run through Iran's territory and link the Central Asian countries to Iranian ports in the Persian and Oman gulfs.

It is expected the implementation of the agreement will be a turning point in the interregional relations and will allow significantly expanding the mutually beneficial ties between the countries of the region.

"It will give a significant impetus to the economic development of the participating countries," the ministry said.
