Kazakhstan's KazTransGas and LeMar CA Inc. Group of Companies have signed an agreement on the establishment of a joint venture for implementing investment projects on exploration and production of methane in Kazakhstan's Karaganda coal basin.

The news was announced by KazTransGas on May 27.

The document was signed by LeMar CA Inc. President Leon Popik and General Director of KazTransGas Serik Sultangali.

"Thanks to this document, the gas supply in the northern regions of the country has been started," Sultangali said after the signing ceremony.

This project will be implemented under the order of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev issued in 2010 on organizing the production and utilization of methane fields, as well as to explore alternative ways of gasification of Kazakhstan's central and northern regions.

This direction is innovation in the field of production of hydrocarbons. Methane is one of the most important non-traditional energy resources, the forecasted reserves of which allow considering it as an alternative component to the fuel and energy base in Kazakhstan.
