Georgia should not try getting NATO’s MAP ahead of time: official
By Jamila Babayeva
The issue of granting Georgia's NATO Membership Action Plan has not been discussed at NATO`s recent high level meeting.
NATO Secretary General's Special Representative James Appathurai
made the remark in an interview with GPB`s First Channel,
commenting on the issue of the September summit of the North
Atlantic Alliance.
"The Georgian people should not jump the gun and try to get the
action plan for NATO membership ahead of time," he said. "Of
course, Georgia has done much in the way of integration into NATO,
but today it is faced with the question: what path of development
to choose? Also, will it be consist to the rapprochement with
NATO?"
Appathurai called on Georgia to go ahead 'step by step'.
"I have not heard about any new regulations concerning NATO's
enlargement," he said.
Furthermore, he believes that "a new step will be put forward on
Georgia's accession to NATO in September."
Georgia is actively preparing for the NATO London summit on September 4-5, 2014 and intends to get a NATO Membership Action Plan (MAP).
