Signing of Georgia-EU association agreement can be accelerated

Georgian State Minister on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Alexi Petriashvili said the association agreement with the European Union (EU) will be signed by June.

"We are pleased that the agreement will be signed no later than June. However, I do not rule out that the signing will further be accelerated," he told journalists.

Georgia initialed association agreement with the EU at the Vilnius summit dedicated to the European Union's 'Eastern Partnership' countries - ex-Soviet states on November 29, 2013. The signing of the Association Agreement is scheduled for August 2014.

Petriashvili said the cooperation between legislative and executive bodies of the EU and Georgia have never were in this dynamism as it is now.

European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy, Stefan Fule recently stressed that the association agreement is scheduled to be signed in late this summer, but both sides are making every effort to accelerate procedures.

Fule voiced believe that the signing of an association agreement will move the relations between the EU and Georgia to a new level.
