Georgia to face sharp weather deterioration

By Jamila Babayeva

Temperature across Georgia could drop by an average of 10 degrees on January 31, the National Environmental Protection Agency reported.

The country will be covered by a cold air mass on January 30.

The air temperature in the low-lying areas of eastern Georgia will be 10-15 degrees below zero and in the mountains 17-22 degrees below zero. Rain and snow are expected across the entire territory of Georgia in early February.

The unstable cold weather will be observed in Georgia until late February, the weather forecasts predict.

Such abnormal cold weather has been registered in the country five times from 1970 and 1990 and three times in 2000s in Tbilisi.

The previous sharp drop in temperature in Georgia was recorded in 2012.

Traffic movement was already limited on Georgia's highway towards Russia at the Mljeta Larsi section of the Mtskheta- Stepantsiminda -Larsi highway due to snowfall and ice, the department of highways reported.

Trailers, semi-trailers and buses with 30 seats and special chains can move.
The movement of all other types of vehicles is free in Mljeta-Gudauri and Kobi-Larsi. The patrol police regulate the movement on these sections.

No restrictions imposed on other highways.
