EU, Iran agree on date of new round of nuclear talks

The EU confirms that the new round of technical nuclear talks between Iran and the P5+1 will be held in Geneva on Dec. 30, spokesperson to HRVP Catherine Ashton, Maja Kocijancic told Ria Novosti.

Earlier Iranian IRNA news agency reported the news, citing a source close to the negotiations.

As Iran's deputy FM Abbas Araqchi said, the point of the talks is develop mechanism of making the agreements in Geneva work.

On November 24, 2013, Iran and the P5+1 group were able to reach an agreement on Islamic Republic's nuclear program. Iran has agreed to curb some of its nuclear activities for six months in return for sanctions relief.

In 2012, representatives of P5+1 group and Iran held three rounds of talks in Istanbul (April 14), Baghdad (May 23-24) and Moscow (June18-19).

None of these meetings resulted in breakthroughs on disputed nuclear issues. Previously talks between the "Six Powers" and Iran were not conducted for over a year.

The U.S. and its Western allies suspect Iran of developing a nuclear weapon - something that Iran denies.

The Islamic Republic has on numerous occasions stated that it does not seek to develop nuclear weapons, using nuclear energy for medical researches instead.
