Tajikistan's election body announces presidential elections' final results

Tajikistan's Central Commission on elections and referendums has announced the final results of the presidential elections which were held on November 6.

According to the election commission, over 3 million or 84.23 percent of voters cast their votes for incumbent president of the country and candidate of the People's Democratic Party Emomali Rahmon.

Thus, Rahmon, 61, who has been ruling Tajikistan for 21 years, won a fourth term in the office.

Besides Rahmon, five more candidates were competing for the top job.

According to results, Secretary of the Communist Party and Member of Parliament Ismoil Talbakov got 4.93 percent, chairman of the Democratic Party Saidjafar Ismonov-1.05 percent, leader of the Socialist Party Abduhalim Gafforov-1.48 percent, representative of the Agrarian Party Tolibbek Bukhoriev-4.49 percent and chairman of the Party of Economic Reform Olimjon Boboev-3.82 percent of total votes.

The election commission also said that the total number of voters in the country amounted to over 4.2 million. Around 3.78 million or 90.1 percent of them cast votes in election.

This year the voting process took place at over 3,100 polling stations in the country and 60 polling stations outside the country.

The election process was observed by over 6,000 local and 500 international observers, including OSCE/ODIHR, OSCE Parliament Assembly, CIS, and Parliamentary Assembly of CIS and SCO.
