Iranian army official: Iran has potential to produce ballistic missiles

By Sara Rajabova

Despite the sanctions imposed by the Western states, Iran continues to reinforce its military capacity with new military equipment and systems.

Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Division Amir Ali Hajizadeh has said that Iran has the capabilities and technologies to produce intercontinental ballistic missiles, Fars agency reported..

"However, the country does not see any need for production of such missilies," he noted.

Hajizadeh said that at the moment Iran has the technology to manufacture intercontinental ballistic missiles.

"We were able to send a satellite into orbit, because we have this technology. But since Iran's enemies are not far from the border, we do not consider it necessary to face high costs and build such missiles," Hajizadeh said.

Hajizadeh said that Iran's drones, including Shahed129 are able to reach Israel.

Two weeks ago, during the parade of the Armed Forces, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps ( IRGC ) demonstrated Shahed129 UAV for the first time.

The UAV is said to be able to carry Sadid-1 missiles, making it Iran's second weapons capable UAV after Karrar.

Besides, Iran recently presented new, domestically made anti-ship and anti-aircraft missiles "Qader" and "Nasr."

In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems.

The Iranian army recently test-fired different types of newly-developed missiles and torpedoes and tested a large number of its domestic weapons, tools and equipment, including submarines, military ships, artillery, choppers, aircraft, UAVs and air defense and electronic systems during massive military drills.

Iran has repeatedly stated that its military might poses no threat to other countries, reiterating that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.
