Uzbekistan to up tariffs for utilities

The new tariffs for electricity and gas have been approved by the Uzbek Finance Ministry.

The electricity prices will be increased by 6.95 percent, natural gas for population and enterprises - by 8.5 percent in Uzbekistan from October 1, the Uzbekenrgo State Joint Stock Company and Uzbekneftegaz National Holding Company reported.

The cost per kilowatt / hour of electricity will be increased from 112.2 soums to 120 soums from October 1. The cost per kilowatt / hour of electricity will hit 60 soums compared to 56.1 soums in the houses equipped with electric stoves.

According to Uzbekneftegaz, the cost per one cubic meter of natural gas for the population will hit 151.74 soums from early October (139.8 soums now) if there is a gas meter or 2,624 soums compared to current 2,419 soums from each resident without a gas meter.

The electricity and gas tariffs were increased by 7.4 and 14 percent respectively in April 2013.

The tariffs for heating and hot water supply will be increased by 6.4 percent, as well as the water supply - by 3.5 percent in Uzbekistan from October 1.
