Turkmen-Chinese talks due in Ashgabat

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping will have exchange of views on the issues of mutual interest during Tuesday's negotiations, a source close to the negotiations told Trend.

Jinping begins his Central Asian tour that will run from Sept.3 to Sept. 13 with a two-day visit to Turkmenistan.

"This meeting of the two countries' leaders will be the first one in the new historical period and will be another important event in the history of bilateral relations," local media reported.

Beijing earlier noted that the heads of two states will "determine a range of concrete strategic tasks aimed at long-term prospect and will sign a package of bilateral documents" during the visit.

Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1992. Important political documents were signed during this period. The joint declaration on comprehensive strenghening Turkmen-Chinese friendship and cooperation relations signed in November 2011 is particularly significant.

Currently, the Turkmen-Chinese interactions are regulated by legal basis including over 135 documents signed at interstate, intergovernmental and interagency levels.

Around 22 Chinese enterprises operate in Turkmenistan which participate in about 65 joint projects. Bilateral cooperation in the spheres of energy, transport, communication and textile industry has been developed.

Turkmenistan plans to open its trade mission in China.
