Celebrations are beginning in Astana on the 18th anniversary of the Constitution of Independent Kazakhstan on Thursday.

The celebration started with the international scientific and practical conference entitled 'The Constitution - the basis of the strategy of development of society and the state'.

"The constitution is a solid basis for a successful development of our state. Through it the economy of Kazakhstan is developing in accordance with the principles of equality of public and private property, free enterprise and the use of property for the benefit of society," the country's President Nursultan Nazarbayev said in his welcoming speech to delegates. The speech was read by the State Secretary of Kazakhstan Marat Tazhin on Thursday.

Chairman of the Kazakh Constitutional Council Igor Rogov noted during the conference that the essence of a new course is to achieve ambitious goals for Kazakhstan to become one of the 30 most developed countries of the world.

"It derives from a preamble of the constitution which refers to the desire of the people of Kazakhstan to take its rightful place in the world, to an awareness of their high responsibility before present and future generations. Each of the strategies logically flows from and corresponds to the norms of the constitution," Rogov noted.

On the occasion of Constitution Day, August 30 has been announced a day off in Kazakhstan. Over 40 events will be held on the occasion of Constitution Day in Astana, the management of internal policy of akimat (city hall) in Astana reported.
