A "warning protest" in response to transit fare hikes took place in Yerevan.

Local media reports that protesters threw 50 dram coins at the entrance of the municipal building; after which, they blocked the entrance to the building, but police pushed them aside.

Advisor to Mayor Albert Gevorgyan came for negotiations with protest participants and journalists, but he was also pelted with coins. Gevorgyan was offended and went back into the building.

"We are not protesting, asking for anything or even demanding, we are warning that, we will not obey this unreasonable decision; the majority of the Armenian population will pay the old price for transport," the protesters say.

Protests are continuing.

Earlier, Yerevan Mayor's Office announce d that the public transport fare in Yerevan increased by 50 percent from 100 to 150 drams since June 20.
