Tehran intends to resolve the issue of the supply of S-300 defence systems only through negotiations with Moscow, Iranian ambassador in Russia Seyed Mahmoud-Reza Sajjadi said on June 10 during a press conference, RIA Novosti news agency reported.

"You mentioned the possibility of solving this problem peacefully. Certainly, we want to solve the issue through peaceful negotiations because we do not want there to be such black marks in our relationship with Russia," he said when answering the question of how Iran is going to solve the issue of litigation between Moscow and Tehran on the supply of the S-300.

Iran filed a lawsuit at the International Court of Arbitration of Geneva against the Russian company Rosoboronexport over the amount of $4 billion on the case of annulment of the contract on the delivery of the S-300 systems. According to media outlet reports, Tehran is ready to withdraw the suit on the delivery of the S-300, in case Russia implements this contract.

The head of Rostec, Sergey Chemezov, said earlier that Russia has little chance of winning the lawsuit filed by Iran on non-realisation of the contract for the sale of the S-300 air defence systems and Moscow is now trying to "come to an agreement with Iran to sign the peaceful agreement, but as yet there are no results."

The S-300, which is considered one of the most advanced air defence systems in the world, cannot only shoot down aircraft, but also ballistic missiles. The complex is able to simultaneously fire at six goals with a maximum range of fire being 200 kilometres.
