Kyrgyzstan's parliament approves chemical castration of pedophiles

The Zhogorku Kenesh (the parliament) of Kyrgyzstan adopted the bill on chemical castration of pedophiles in its third reading. The decision was made at the meeting of parliament on June 6, KyrTAG news agency reported.

According to the adopted law, rapists and pedophiles will be punished by the use of chemical castration that is by the injection of an appropriate drug. The injections will be made shortly before the release of the offender from prison.

An offender after being released from the prison should be permanently registered by the authorities and law enforcement agencies in order to continue receiving injections. If the person refuses to receive the injection after being released from the prison that person will be punished by imprisonment for another two years.

The reason for the initiation of the bill was the increase of violent crimes against minors.

83 such crimes were registered in 2011 and 73 cases in only in the first half of 2012.

Recurrence of pedophilia according to world statistics, is close to 100 per cent.
