Iran seeks to expand tourism ties with Turkey
Isfahan Governor General Ali Reza Zaker Isfahani in a meeting with Turkish Minister of Food, Agriculture and Animal Breeding Mehmet Mehdi Aker said that broadening of tourism ties between Iran and Turkey can help strengthen their bilateral relations, IRNA news agency reported.
"High cultural, historical, tourism and economic capacities of Isfahan is a suitable opportunity for increasing the cultural, economic, tourism, scientific and technical transactions between the two countries," Isfahani said.
"These capacities are such that they can result in exchange of millions of tourists between the two countries every year," he added.
The governor pointed to his province's tourism attractions and handicrafts, saying that there are about 20,000 historical works in Isfahan many of which have been registered as national and international works and 100 of Isfahan's handicrafts have received UNESCO's endorsement of genuineness.
Zaker Isfahani pointed to sisterhood of Isfahan and Istanbul, and said that his meeting with the Turkish minister can pave the way for holding a cultural week given the good relations and considerable cultural proximity between Iran and Turkey.
The Turkish agriculture minister, for his part, said that two flights per week are currently conducted between Istanbul and Isfahan.
"We believe that the number of flights should be increased to one flight per day," he added.
