Turkmen parliament approves military agreement with Ukraine

The Majlis (Parliament) of Turkmenistan has ratified an intergovernmental agreement between Turkmenistan and Ukraine on the implementation of a program of military-technical cooperation between the two countries in 2013-2014, the Turkmen government said on Wednesday.

As reported earlier on the website of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the agreement signed in late January will expand cooperation in repairs and in the modernization of weapons and military equipment for Turkmenistan as well as in the development of aviation repair facilities and naval forces and the procurement of military goods.

Another package of intergovernmental agreements was signed in February during the visit of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych to Turkmenistan.

Among the signed documents are: a memorandum of understanding between the National Joint-Stock Company Naftogaz of Ukraine and Turkmengas, a program of cooperation between the foreign ministries of the two countries in 2013, a cooperation agreement between the National Olympic Committees, a memorandum of understanding between the State Service for Financial Monitoring of Ukraine and the Ministry of Finance of Turkmenistan in cooperation in the field of combating legalization (laundering) of proceeds of crime and financing terrorist, agreement between the Kyiv Regional State Administration of Ukraine and the mayor's office (administration) of the Akhal velayat (region) of Turkmenistan on trade, economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation.
