Kazakhstan to set up geological research centre

It is planned to create a geological scientific research centre in Kazakhstan, the vice minister of industry and new technologies of Kazakhstan Nurlan Sauranbayev told Trend news agency.

"It is planned to create a scientific research centre on geology under the aegis of Nazarbayev University, the Samruk-Kazyna Fund and a number of large subsoil users. That will be the centre of modernised new geology using all recent scientific achievements in the sphere of geological exploration," Sauranbayev said at a meeting of the working group making recommendations on amendments and supplements to the law 'on subsoil use'.

According to him, the necessity of this centre is related to the fact that almost all the territory of Kazakhstan has been explored to date.

"New mineral deposits are situated at a great depth and require other technologies than those used previously. New technologies and equipment are needed for the exploitation of deep layers. The centre will also train experts," he said.

Sauranbayev said that the head of government instructed to begin the development of the project this year. Its realisation might take several years.

"Construction of the scientific research centre became possible after adopting the decision on the state support of the geological sector," he said.
