By Aynur Jafarova

The United Kingdom will allocate more than $1 million to Kyrgyzstan through an international financial institution for development of water supply in three provinces, Kyrgyz Minister of Finance Olga Lavrova was quoted by KyrTAG news agency as saying.

The Department for International Development of the UK will allocate the amount via the International Development Association for the implementation of the second project on rural water supply and sanitation, Lavrova said at a session of the parliamentary committee on international affairs on Monday.

Lavrova noted that these funds will be spent on enlightenment about sanitary and hygiene issues of the residents of faraway regions and institutional development of a strategy on drinking water supply development, as well as training of staff.

The minister said the project will be implemented in Talas, Naryn and Issyk-Kul regions by the ARIS company, adding, "All these funds are granted, therefore, we must not refuse them."

The committee members are discussing the draft of a relevant grant agreement.
