OSCE chief to visit Uzbekistan

OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier will arrive in Tashkent will official visit, Trend news agency reported referring to the press service of the Foreign Ministry.

OSCE Secretary General will meet and make negotiations in the Oly Majlis (parliament), foreign ministry, number of other ministries and departments of the republic.

Uzbekistan has been a member of the OSCE since 1992. The OSCE Liaison Office in Central Asia was opened in Tashkent in 1995 on the initiative of the Uzbek side. In 1999, in connection with the opening of separate OSCE missions in the countries of Central Asia, Liaison Office was renamed the OSCE Centre in Tashkent.

In July 2006, the government of Uzbekistan and the OSCE signed a memorandum on the establishment of the OSCE Project Coordinator in Uzbekistan.

At present, a total of 30 OSCE projects are being implemented in the country.
