Women allowed to become motorcycle racers in Iran
Women in Iran are now officially allowed to drive motorcycles on
moto tracks and participate in competitions, Vice president of
Motorcyle and Automobile Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran
(MAFIRI), Hossein Shahriari said, Trend news agency reported.
Speaking to the journalists, Shahriari said that since there are
many female sport motorcycling enthusiasts, they were illegally
using tracks to ride their motorcycles.
"Now, there's no need for illegal activities of such kind. They
have official permission for motor racing," Shahriari said, noting
that it took MAFIRI seven months to obtain the official
licence.
He noted that the female motorcycling does not break any Islamic
laws, and thus women can freely practice and improve their riding
skills.
