'Russia's Oldest Person' Dies at 122

A Dagestani man thought to be Russia's oldest person has died, aged 122, officials said, RIA Novosti reported.

Magomed Labazanov, who celebrated his 122th birthday in May, died in his village home in the early hours of Tuesday morning, local authorities said.

His age, however, had not been officially certified.

Labazanov is believed to have been born in Dagestan, in Russia's North Caucasus region, in 1890. He variously lived in neighboring Chechnya as well as Kazakhstan before settling back in Dagestan after Wolrd War II.
