Russia sells India more fighter jets

Russia has signed a deal to provide India with 42 fighter jets.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said in Moscow on Friday that the Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter jets will be assembled in India, and will be fitted with locally produced electronics, Radio Liberty reported.

India had previously signed several contracts for the delivery of 230 Su-30MKIs, most of which are also being assembled locally.

Indian and Russian officials, however, failed to sign a long expected deal to complete the Koodankulam nuclear plant in the southern state of Tamil Nadu.

Singh, who is in Russia for a three-day visit focusing on military and economic cooperation between the two countries, also held talks on December 16 with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
