Ahmadinejad had to speak Turkish at regional summit - reports

ISTANBUL– Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad faced some unexpected developments in Istanbul on Thursday where he attended the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) summit, Turkish media reported.

Ahmadinejad held a news conference following the summit. When he entered the conference hall, the wall portrait of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei fell on the floor.

During the press conference, the Iranian president faced an interpreter problem. The translator, who was supposed to interpret from Turkish into Persian, was upset by hearing participants’ constantly speaking English and left the room. President Ahmadinejad was not lost and began speaking Turkish instead.

Ahmadinejad, who started by saying "the interpreter is very tired", turned out to be fluent in Turkish.
