Armenian inspectors to examine Turkish arms
BAKU – A group of inspectors from Armenia’s Defense Ministry has left for Turkey to carry out check-ups under the treaty on conventional arms in Europe.
The ministry said in a statement that the goal of the inspection was to examine whether or not the amount of military machinery and ammunition stationed in Dogubeyazit exceeds designated levels.
Armenian inspectors are paying their second visit to Turkey. In March, they carried out check-ups in Sarikamis, Kars, Ardahan and Igdir according to the Vienna agreement signed in 1999. The inspection did not reveal any violations.
Armenia and Turkey have been at odds for decades due to Armenian occupation of Azerbaijani territory and Yerevan’s claims on the World War I-era genocide.
