Armenia backs negotiated solution on Iran nuclear dispute
YEREVAN – Armenia hopes for a settlement of the dispute over Iran’s nuclear program through peace talks, Armenian Foreign Minister Eduard Nalbandian was quoted by the local media as saying.
Regarding international sanctions against Tehran, Nalbandian said all member states of the United Nations are to honor the decisions of its Security Council, as it is required by the UN by-laws.
"But we don’t think a solution can be found by means of force and bans. We hope that through joint efforts of Tehran and the world community, agreement will be reached on Iran’s nuclear program and this issue will find its negotiated solution."
The U.S. and other Western nations accuse Iran of seeking nuclear weapons, despite Tehran’s assurances its nuclear program serves peaceful purposes. The UN Security Council has passed six resolutions on the issue, with four of them urging Iran to scrap its uranium enrichment work and two others issuing warnings to the country.
