U.S. praises Turkmenistan's energy policy
ASHGABAD – The United States highly appreciates Turkmenistan's energy policy, a US official said at a meeting with President Kurbanguly Berdymukhamedov in New York, the national broadcaster Altyn Asyr reports.
Richard Morningstar, the US Special Envoy for Eurasian Energy, confirmed American business circles' growing interest in intensifying productive contacts with Turkmenistan in the oil and gas sector.
The Turkmen leader said that as an energy power, Turkmenistan is focused on expanding cooperation with the world’s leading companies on the sale of its rich natural resources, which corresponds to the plans for creating a multi-purpose network of alternative routes for Turkmen energy resources to world markets and an overhaul of the industry infrastructure of the fuel and energy complex.
Berdymukhamedov also met with the leaders of oil companies such as ExxonMobil and ChevronTexaco, and took part in a joint business forum.
According to him, Turkmenistan welcomes the active participation of US companies in the country's economic development.
The event was attended by the heads of Chevron, ExxonMobil, John Deer, Case, Marathon Oil, ConocoPhillips and others. Many of these companies already hold firm positions in the Turkmen market, in fields such as the construction sector, agriculture, air transport, and communications.
The U.S. is one of the leading suppliers of modern technologies to Turkmenistan, including agricultural, construction and aviation equipment.
Partnership with the American companies in oil and gas sector seems promising, taking into account a program of modernization and further development of the fuel and energy complex implemented in Turkmenistan, including plans to diversify the supply of Turkmen energy resources to world markets and full-field development of the enormous hydrocarbon resources in the Turkmen shelf of the Caspian Sea.
