Armenia hit by grain shortage, seeks imports from Iran

20 August 2010 09:00 (UTC+04:00)

YEREVAN - Russia’s halting grain exports has caused a predicament in Armenia, driving up prices for the product and prompting the government to seek imports from Iran.

Armenia, which considers Iran a friendly and fraternal country, believe it will not decline assistance in its times of trouble.

Tehran has not issued any statements on the issue so far.

Droughts caused by scorching heat have made 20 percent of arable land in Russia unusable, prompting the government to suspend grain exports.
