Turkish campaigners urge parliament to recognize Khojaly genocide
A signature collection campaign has begun in Turkey’s Kars province to achieve recognition in the country’s Grand National Assembly (parliament) of the Khojaly massacre committed by Armenians against Azeris in 1992.
A great number of residents in the city of Kars have already joined the campaign, which was launched by the opposition Nationalist Movement Party’s local organization and the Ulku Ocaglari Union, Turkey’s Kafkas news agency reported.
"Despite the Khojaly tragedy’s being documented by the international media and human rights groups, the world’s decision-makers are reluctant today to recognize this scary crime and are thus adhering to a double standard against Muslim Turks," said Onur Ersancmis, chairman of the Union’s Kars province organization.*
