Armenia sees Iran as ‘reliable partner’
Armenia considers Iran a reliable partner and an important country
for the region, Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian reportedly said
while hosting Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki on
Wednesday.
Sarkisian said Yerevan attaches great importance to its cooperation with Iran, Armenian media reported.
The two discussed a wide range of issues including efforts to normalize Turkey-Armenia relations, regional security, as well as prospects for reaching a negotiated settlement to the Armenia-Azerbaijan Upper (Nagorno) Garabagh conflict.
The Armenian leader thanked Tehran for adhering to a balanced stance on the Garabagh problem.
Mottaki, in turn, said Iran was content with the level of bilateral cooperation. He also said his country supports the dialog tackled by Armenia and Turkey to mend their relations, which have been strained for decades.
The Iranian minister is in the Armenian capital to attend a meeting of the inter-governmental commission, which is expected to center on the project seeking to build a railway line linking the two countries.*
