Georgia may recognize WWI-era ‘genocide’, lawmaker claims
Georgia is considering recognition of the so-called genocide of
Armenians, a claim on the World War I-era mass killings in the
Ottoman Empire, a lawmaker who chairs the Javakh union based in the
neighboring South Caucasus republic reportedly said.
Shirak Torosyan claimed that the developments ongoing in Georgia
could bring about Tbilisi’s recognizing the "genocide", according
to Armtoday news agency.
Armenians say Ottoman Turks killed 1.5 million people in 1915, a
claim strenuously denied by the modern Turkish state.*
