Iran releases imported cars held at customs

By Trend

The Cabinet of Ministers of Iran has allowed to release the imported cars held at customs and in free trade zones, Trend reports via ILNA.

In accordance with a new Cabinet decree, issued by Vice President Es'haq Jahangiri, 13,000-14,000 cars at customs, in free trade and special economic zones can freely enter the country.

Cars with an engine capacity of more than 2,500 CC cannot enter Iran.

It is expected that the release of imported cars will allow reducing the high prices in the market.

Following the US President Donald Trump’s decision to pull out from the 2015 nuclear deal in May, Iranian government started taking measures to deal with the looming sanctions, one of which was prohibiting car and luxury goods imports due to declining currency reserves and allocating foreign currency to import of basic goods instead.
