By Trend

Uzbekistan is going to introduce restrictions on production and import of food with high content of salt, sugar and fats, Trend reports on Dec. 19 referring to Uzbek media.

The corresponding instructions were given by President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the Ministry of Healthcare as well as to the interested ministries and departments.

Responsible state bodies should develop and approve the procedure and criteria for classifying food products with a high content of fats, salt and sugar, as well as make proposals to limit the import, production (manufacturing), sale and consumption of food products with a high content of fats, salt and sugar.

The main sources of added sugars are sweet flour products, cakes and pastries, sweets, sweet dairy products and curd products, sweet soft drinks, nectars and juice drinks. Excess fat, saturated fatty acids and trans-fats are found in sausages, confectionery, oil and fat products, and sauces.
