Tajik's GDP exceeds $ 5 billion in nine months

Tajkistan's GDP for January-September of this year was more than 47.5 billion somoni (more than $ 5 billion), which is 7 percent more than in the same period last year in comparable prices, Agency for Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan reported.

Agriculture still holds the first position in the structure of GDP (18.6 percent), although the share of this industry in the country's economy compared with the same period last year decreased by 2.1 percent.

Industry, including energy, accounts for 17.2 percent of GDP produced in the first nine months of this year. Compared to the same period last year, the share of industry grew by only 0.1 percent.

Trade, car repairs, hotels and restaurants occupy 14.9 percent of GDP, transport, communications and warehousing - 11.6 percent, taxes - 11.3 percent.

Last year, the growth of the Tajik economy was 7.1 percent. This year, the government expects growth of 7 percent.

In early October, the International Monetary Fund raised forecasts for economic growth in the republic by the end of this year to 5 percent. Prior to this, the IMF predicted 4 percent.

The Asian Development Bank at the end of September forecasted the expected growth of the Tajik economy in 2018 at the level of 6 percent.

Prior to this, in early September, the Eurasian Development Bank forecast Tajikistan to maintain a high level of economic activity until the end of the year. Economists of the bank believe that the growth of 7.1 percent is expected in the republic.

The government intends to turn agrarian Tajikistan into a developed industrial state. For this, it is planned to increase industrial and energy capacities, reducing the dependence of the country's economy on agriculture.
